GT RADIAL VAULTS INTO FIRST PLACE WITH 2ND AND 3RD PLACE FINISHES IN FORMULA DRIFT COMPETITION IN ATLANTA
Two GT Radial drivers stood on the podium when the smoke cleared at the Formula DRIFT event in Atlanta on May 13, and GT Radial stood atop the tire points standings.
Chris Forsberg, one of the most accomplished drivers in Formula DRIFT history, powered his NOS Energy Drink / GT Radial Nissan Z to a 2nd place finish, while Aurimas Bakchis captured third in his Feal Suspension / GT Radial Nissan S15. Vaughn Gittin Jr was awarded the win in Atlanta.
The two podium finishes in Atlanta, combined with the 1st place finish by Matt Field in the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship Round 1 on the Streets of Long Beach on April 8, put GT Radial in 1st place in the 2023 Tire Cup Standings. GT Radial drivers are competing on Champiro SX2 RS tires, which were designed and are being produced at the Giti plant in Richburg, SC. The SX2 RS ultra-high-performance tires are also sold for street use.
“It was an excellent showing in Atlanta for GT Radial, thanks to amazing driving by Chris and Aurimas and outstanding support from their teams,” said GT Radial Motorsports Manager Mike Meeiem. “We couldn’t be more pleased with how the 2023 Formula DRIFT season has started out and look forward to showcasing our ‘American-engineered, American-made tires’ in the upcoming competitions.”
GT Radial clinched second position in the 2022 FD Tire Cup after achieving six podium finishes. After finishing fifth in its first year, GT Radial rose to third in 2021 before securing second at the final round of 2022.
GT Radial has renewed its partnership with Formula DRIFT for another three-year term to provide tires to teams in the PRO Championship. Additionally, GT Radial will remain the Official Tire of the PROSPEC series for up-and-coming drivers for another two years.
