GT Radial Gets 2nd Consecutive Podium in Formula DRIFT
ATLANTA, GA (May 13, 2024) – Two races into the 2024 Formula DRIFT season, and GT Radial has two podium finishes. GT Radial driver Simen Olsen of Norway claimed second place for the second time this season with a strong showing at Road Atlanta on May 11.
Olsen, driving his Feal Suspension Nissan S14.9, lost to fellow Norwegian Fredric Aasbo in a thrilling final that went to One More Time after the judges were unable to separate the two drivers’ first runs. Unfortunately, Olsen experienced an electrical problem before the restart, which returned during the third run, causing him to lose power and retire. Olsen is in second place in the driver points standings.
“Road Atlanta is a tough track on tires with all the twists and turns but the GT Radial Champiro SX2 RS tires really showed their mettle,” said GT Radial Motorsports Manager Mike Meeiem. “Simen and the Feal Suspension Team are off to a great start, and we’re looking forward to more intense competition in Orlando.”
GT Radial began defense of its 2023 Formula DRIFT Tire Cup Championship on April 13 with a double podium finish at the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship Road 1 in Long Beach, CA. Joining Olsen on the podium was teammate Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis of Lithuania who finished third in his Feal Suspension/GT Radial Nissan S15.
Teams on GT Radial Champiro SX2 RS tires, which are manufactured at the company’s plant in Richburg, SC, scored the most points over the eight races in the 2023 season, enabling GT Radial to best four other tire brands to claim the Tire Cup. In 2023, GT Radial achieved a total of 13 podiums and three wins in the 2023 season’s eight races.
GT Radial has renewed its partnership with Formula DRIFT for another three-year term to provide tires to teams in the PRO Championship. Additionally, GT Radial will remain the Official Tire of the PROSPEC series for up-and-coming drivers for another two years.
